Help! I wired up my 213 lift bridge and found that the outer rails are not electrically isolated. I wanted to create a train detection block that included the bridge using the isolated outer rail for detection, which is obviously a problem if the bridge cross-connects the 2 outer rails.
Another new accessory was the 213 Lift Bridge. This item would be taking over for the popular 313 Bascule Bridge. While the other items mentioned above were produced, the 213 Lift Bridge never was. In 1991, Lionel Trains, Inc. produced a huge operating lift bridge …

The section of the bridge that raises is 20" long and lifts 6-1/4" in the fully raised position. The bridge openings for trains are 4-1/4" high by 3-3/4" wide. There is a video of this bridge in operation on my website. The bridge was originally cataloged by Lionel in 1950 as the # 213 Lift Bridge, but not made.

In the spirit of the #213 Lift Bridge, the all-new Lionel Swing Bridge keeps traffic on your O gauge river and rail systems running smoothly. At the press of a lever, the entire bridge span pivots at its mid-point, allowing boat traffic to pass below.

The clearance at each end of the bridge is not enough for certain cars, which is a real disadvantage. There's a big difference in this respect between the metal 213 and the earlier plastic 12782 lift bridge, which is bigger overall (and I think still ranks as Lionel's biggest ever accessory) especially in the centre section clearance.
